Learn More About our Team

James (Jimmy) A. Caruso, Jr.

James A. Caruso, Jr., known as "Jimmy" by friends and family, is a dedicated legal professional with a distinctive combination of financial expertise and legal acumen that sets him apart in the field of estate planning and succession law. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Southern University Law Center in 2011, after completing his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration — majoring in Finance and minoring in Economics — at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1997. Demonstrating a commitment to both professional growth and personal responsibility, Jimmy attended Southern University Law Center's part-time evening program while simultaneously serving as a Branch Manager at MidSouth Bank, bringing a first-hand understanding of asset management, lending, and financial planning to his legal practice.

Jimmy founded Caruso Law Firm LLC in 2021 to provide personalized legal counsel to individuals and families across Acadiana. His background in finance and banking gives him an analytical perspective that proves invaluable in estate planning matters — from structuring a comprehensive will that accounts for Louisiana's forced heirship rules, to advising clients on the financial implications of usufruct arrangements, trust administration, and succession planning. Where many clients encounter estate planning as an unfamiliar and often intimidating process, Jimmy's dual fluency in financial and legal concepts allows him to translate complex matters into plain, actionable guidance.

Louisiana's civil law tradition makes estate planning here unlike anywhere else in the country, and Jimmy takes pride in helping Acadiana families navigate that distinction with confidence. He is also bilingual in English and Spanish, extending his counsel to the region's Spanish-speaking community — ensuring that language is never a barrier to sound legal planning.

Throughout his professional journey, Jimmy has consistently demonstrated exemplary character, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the clients he serves. His diverse background and depth of experience have earned him the respect of peers and clients alike across the Acadiana legal community.

Outside the office, Jimmy is a devoted family man. He and his wife, Tomicka, have been married for over 24 years and are the proud parents of two children — Austin, a recent graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and Addison, who will be attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the fall. The family also includes Chip, their dachshund. In his leisure time, Jimmy enjoys traveling, cooking, watching movies, and dining out with his family.

Dajhanna Aguilar

Certified Paralegal

Dajhanna was born in El Salvador and relocated to Los Angeles, California, at a very young age. However, when she was nine, her family moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, which has since been her home. Dajhanna cannot imagine living anywhere else. She graduated from Lafayette High School with Honors.

Her Hispanic culture provides her with a deeper understanding and empathy for our clients. For Dajhanna, the “American Dream” is a shared goal, and she finds tremendous joy in assisting her clients in their pursuit. She handles cases from start to finish, beginning with initial intake from clients and concluding with relaying all relevant information to the attorney.

Some of her additional responsibilities include translating files for clients, scheduling follow-up appointments, preparing applications, and ensuring clients are regularly updated on their case status. Dajhanna truly believes that being part of the Caruso Law Firm has presented her with an extraordinary opportunity for growth and to learn a great deal about immigration law.

In her spare time, Dajhanna dedicates most of it to her academic studies as she continues her education. However, she also enjoys reading, playing video/board games, teaching children, attending church, traveling, and appreciating the beauty of nature.
